Spain to experience heatwave

July 18th, 2008

The poor weather which has hit parts of southern Europe is set to subside at the end of the week.

Countries such as Spain are likely to experience a heatwave from Friday onwards, with temperatures hovering around the seasonal average.

Indeed, Angel Rivera of the Spanish Meteorological Office believes temperature levels should go up “considerably” this weekend, reports the Typically Spanish website.

He said the mercury is likely to rise to about 40 degrees C in some parts of the country, such as Valencia and the Costa del Sol.

This could be good news for British holidaymakers who are looking to escape from the miserable conditions in some parts of the UK.

Earlier this week, Jonathan Powell of Positive Weather Solutions suggested that people who want some guaranteed sunshine in Europe should visit Spain.

However, he reminded people to be aware the heat may become more intense further south.

Repossessions offer buy-to-let Spanish bargains

July 16th, 2008

Real estate experts have claimed that with repossessions increasing, foreign property seekers were being presented with some excellent investment opportunities in Spain.

Reflecting on the effects of the ‘credit squeeze,’ real estate firm Propertyinspain.net claimed that repossessions were bringing a steady supply of properties back onto the market, providing bargain opportunities.

The company claimed that the growth of the Spanish economy and strong job creation in particular areas made buy-to-let purchases on re-sale properties a sound investment, with plenty of new workers in the area guaranteed to supply rental demand.

Terry Walker, spokesperson for propertyinspain.net, advised buy-to-let buying in Spain, claiming: “Some of the areas where they’re located are showing economic growth anyway. People are coming in with the new IT and logistics industries.”

Explaining the new availability of quality properties, Mr Walker added: “There are properties for about 30,000 euros but spend the same again and you’ve got a lovely family house in the middle of a village.”

He added that the Costa del Sol – already a highly desirable area for British buyers – was one of the areas presenting bargain buys after repossessions.ADNFCR-1239-ID-18394501-ADNFCR

Spain attracts European holidaymakers

June 27th, 2008

Spain has been named as the most popular holiday destination among Europeans by Mondial Assistance.

According to the organisation, 25.3 per cent of people flying within Europe for their summer breaks will visit the country.

Spain was found to be a particularly popular choice among British people, as 30 per cent of tourists from the UK are heading there for their holidays.

In addition, figures showed that it will attract more than one in three leisure travelers from Switzerland this summer.

However, the nation was also found to be especially popular with Spaniards, as 35.8 per cent of tourists from Spain are not planning to venture to foreign shores.

Instead, this group intends to remain within the country and enjoy attractions closer to home.

This comes after the Typically Spanish website cited official figures showing that more than 15 million people took a holiday in Spain between January and April 2008.

Property buyers go to year-round destinations

June 26th, 2008

Countries which attract holidaymakers all year round could be good places for overseas property investors to consider.

According to Holiday-Rentals, Spain is currently one of the most popular destinations among its clients.

This was said to be because the European country is consistently popular with tourists for 12 months of the year, which means it has strong rental potential.

Sarah Chambers, spokesperson for Holiday-Rentals, commented: “60 per cent of our clients own one or two foreign homes.

“They almost always rent them out for the whole year.”

Speaking to the Telegraph, she added that investors need to make clear that there are year-round attractions near their property when advertising it to potential tenants.

This comes after Holiday-Rentals revealed that 31 per cent of British-owned foreign properties in Europe are located in Spain.

The organisation said this is partially due to the number of cheap flights servicing areas such as the Costas.

Alicante attracts Scottish tourists

June 3rd, 2008

Many holidaymakers in Scotland are choosing to take breaks in traditional Spanish hotspots, it has been revealed.

Rick Green, chief executive of Flyglobespan, stated that flight sales from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen have gone up this year.

Speaking to the Daily Record, he said services to established European resorts such as Alicante are proving to be especially popular with consumers.

This suggests that people in Scotland are not being put off Spain by the fact that the pound is now at an all-time low against the euro.

Mr Green commented: “Although we are seeing strong demand for our non-Euro routes, our traditional European summer holiday destinations are still the most popular.”

He added that there has actually been an upturn in demand for flights to resorts including Alicante.

This area was recently flagged up by the Guardian as a good location for holidaymakers from the UK.

According to the newspaper, Alicante is a “real” city that offers a more authentic Spanish experience than some tourist hotspots.

Golf lover rates Costa Blanca

June 3rd, 2008

A golf fan from Scotland has spoken highly of the facilities on offer in Spain’s Costa Blanca.

Alan White, from Port Seton in East Lothian, said lovers of the sport can enjoy the game on numerous courses in the region.

Speaking to Sunday Mail, he revealed that he likes it so much that he has chosen to purchase a property in the area.

Mr White told the newspaper that by dividing his time between the UK and Spain, he will be able to indulge his passion for the sport.

He commented: “It’s perfect for a golfer like me but it’s also great for all my family because we’re very close to some great shopping centres and restaurants.”

Mr White added that buying a holiday home in Costa Blanca is the “best move we’ve ever made”.

This comes after David Brice of Golf International told PGATour.com that a growing number of American golf fans are choosing to visit the Spanish Costas.

Scottish tourists book trips to Spain

June 3rd, 2008

Consumers in Scotland are not allowing the global economic downturn to put them off their holidays, it has been revealed.

According to the Daily Record, holiday firm Barrhead Travel has seen an eight per cent increase in the number of bookings this year.

Bill Munro, spokesperson for Barrhead Travel, said that established European destinations have been especially popular, even though the pound is currently much weaker than the euro.

He commented: “Some are shying away from Euroland and going to countries based on price, but many know that for quality Spain is still number one.”

Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Munro added that Spain is still cheaper than the UK “by far”.

This backs up recent comments from the Post Office, which said Spain is currently the cheapest country in the eurozone.

Spain attracts American golfers

June 3rd, 2008

A growing number of American golf fans are choosing to visit the Spanish Costas, it has been revealed.

According to David Brice of Golf International, Spain saw a double digit increase in the number of visitors from the US last year.

Writing for PGATour.com, he said this occurrence is practically unheard of in most European countries, as an increase of about six per cent would be considered a major achievement.

Mr Brice partially attributed this to the growing international profile of Spain’s golf courses, such as Valderrama in the Costa del Sol.

Commenting on this trend, he said: “Americans becoming increasingly aware that the Iberian Peninsula is filled with everything they are looking for in a destination.”

He added that the dollar can go much further in Spain than in many other European countries.

This comes after easyJet highlighted the Costa del Sol as a hotspot for British tourists during the recent bank holiday weekend.
