Experts have advised buyers to spend time living in Spain before they commit to purchasing an overseas property in the country.

According to Shelter Offshore, acquiring a property based on holiday experiences does not provide buyers with enough experience of life in Spain.

It advised investors to live in a variety of locations in the Mediterranean country before deciding which regions suit them better.

The online portal said: “During your research stay it will therefore be important to spend time looking at the housing options available to you as well.”

Buyers should visit regions they are considering purchasing homes in during the off-peak holiday season so that they can see how different the area is throughout the year, Shelter Offshore added.

Fly2Let recently reported that property prices in Murcia will rise next year as more people look to purchase large homes with plenty of space and land.

Mark Hamilton, an estate agent in the region, cited the town of Lorca as an example of this trend, noting that the average house price has increased 6.5 per cent year-on-year.
